A Message To Parents About Head Lice
As you may be aware, there has been a tremendous increase in Pediculosis (head lice) in schools all over the United States. We are asking your cooperation to prevent the occurrence of Pediculosis in our school this year. Some things you may do that would be of help to us are:
- Examine your child weekly for head lice and nits (eggs). Nits are tiny white objects which look similar to dandruff but cling to a hair strand, especially near the scalp, at the nape of the neck, and behind the ears. The nit cannot be brushed off. It might be easier to remember to check your child if you inspect their head on the same day each week.
- Do not let your child attend school if Pediculosis is found until they have been properly treated.
- If head lice or nits are found in your child’s hair, notify your school nurse as soon as possible. Please be assured that this matter is handled in a sensitive and confidential manner.
- Encourage your child not to share combs, brushes, hats or other personal items with the other children.
Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please call your school nurse at 678-594-8071.
